  • What do you think of the statement: “nature is normally silent, except for storms, hurricanes, avalanches, cascades, and some exceptional telluride movements.” Do you agree with this or not? Explain.
  • Seeing how our ears and perception of sound have evolved how do you think we would react to/perceive simpler tones from history? And how would they view ours?
  • Do you find it more enjoyable to listen to music that is made up of more unique or everyday sounds as opposed to traditional instruments? Why do think that is so?
  • In the reading it talks about the perspective that noise is typically unpleasant to the ear while also contrasting this with beauty and pleasant sensations that some noise can bring. Do you agree that noise can take on both of these roles? Do you find one to be more prominent? Can you think of some examples in your own life of sounds that could fit into these two categories?
  • What do you think of the 6 categories of noise? Do you think there should be others or do you agree that everything else stems from those main 6?
