Tall Tale

On May 10, 2020 I fell asleep at approximately 3:30 am with a very bad headache. The next morning, I woke up to a blush pink room surrounding me in my twin sized bed with pink roses cuddled up to my childhood teddy bear, Sam. Not knowing if I was dreaming or not, it appeared that I had traveled back in time to when I was a little girl. Not caring about what day or year it was, I hopped out of bed to see what was going on. I peered outside and saw that there was mounds of snow in my front yard. I looked down and saw that I was wearing my infamous Beauty and the Beast footie pajamas. I knew exactly what day it was. I ran back to my room and stood on my tippy toes to peak at myself in the mirror. I had short, dark hair up to my shoulders and lightly spotted freckles on my pale skin. I was seven years old again!

I walked downstairs a little confused on how I should act, but for some reason there was a part of me that knew exactly how to act around my parents. The joy that was filled inside of me to be a seven year old girl again was amazing. Since it was a snow day, my mom was making cinnamon buns in the kitchen while my ten year old brother was cuddled on the couch watching Spongebob. Quickly after eating our cinnamon buns, Max and I ran to put our snow gear on.

The first thing on our agenda was to walk across the street to the frozen pond in our neighbor’s backyard. Right as we walked down the small hill to the pond, our neighbor was just finishing up shoveling all of the snow off of the pond, revealing a smooth patch of ice. My brother and I ice skated and played tag for hours!

Next on our snow day agenda was going into our very own backyard to climb the old boulders that have been there for centuries. Our neighborhood, named “Sleepy Hollow Farm Road” was a farm way back in the day, and has very old rock walls that were used as gates to separate the different types of animals. The rocks ranged from small rocks being stacked together to make a stone wall, to huge boulders creating a barrier. My brother and I start having a very intense snowball fight using these rock walls as our own forts to protect ourselves from each other.

The last part of our snow day agenda is sitting in our family room and watching a movie altogether. Tonight it is my turn to pick a movie. I choose a classic: Finding Nemo. As we’re all sitting on the couch together my mom makes us dinner to eat while watching the movie. It’s Max and I’s favorite tonight: Kraft Mac n Cheese with hot chocolate as our drink. Since both my brother and I are so tired from our long day out in the cold, we fall asleep while watching the movie. Our parents have to carry us back to our rooms at the end of the night, and when I wake up I’m back in my light blue room on May 10, 2020.
